Hi loves! SO…this is me being a little bit brave as I post my first swim story! I think it’s important to be honest here…I pour my heart into this little blog and I always want to be up front. I used to truly despise shopping for swim. Like ACTUAL real tears would happen. I used to be a lot bustier back in the day, and I always had to order my swim tops separately from my bottoms. All I wanted so desperately was to fit into a teensy J.Crew seersucker string bikini. Not realizing that even if I could, maybe that wouldn’t be the right style for me anyhow.
So flash forward a whole decade and I have way TOO MUCH swim! One pieces…monogrammed swim tops…push up tops in neon colors from Victoria Secret…wrap around L*Space tops…I can’t get enough! I think that as I have gotten older, worked in this industry longer, and become aware of my body shape, I have found suits that I love and that make me feel more confident.
I think that what makes us women beautiful is the fact that we are ALL shaped differently. Let me stress: we are ALL shaped differently! Love what you have and find the suit that works for you! Don’t compare (easier said than done..I know, I know). Swimsuits for All is a brand that I love following on instagram that has such a wonderful message! They make suits for curvier girls in sizes 8-34 and they are so cute! I love seeing all of their fans rocking what they have and being so confident and stunning! You know that feeling when you put on a beautiful dress for a special occasion and you just GLOW because you love it so much and feel prettier? That’s what you should aim for in swim, too! I’m serious! I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite suits for all different shapes and sizes (below) but I also wanted to give my top 5 tips on bathing suit shopping:
1) Try on as many different styles as you can. YOU NEVER KNOW until you get it on. Different brands fit very differently. This is why I like going to department stores like Nordstrom or Lord & Taylor because they have so many different styles and brands to choose from.
2) If you are like me and feel prettier with makeup on and with your hair done, then make sure you have it done just the way you like before you go swim shopping! Seriously, you would be shocked at how this helps. Last time I went swim shopping, it was right before going out to dinner with friends and I was all dressed up. I ended up loving the majority of the suits I tried on!
3) Go somewhere that you are familiar with. Lord & Taylor is so close to my house and I love everyone that works there! Everyone on the floor makes me feel happier and taken care of. That’s how you want to feel when you are swim shopping!
4) If you absolutely fall in love with one, allow yourself a splurge. If you know you will wear it over and over and over until you can’t anymore, then it is absolutely worth it!
5) It’s “ok” to have a glass of prosecco beforehand. I’m very serious.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments on all of this! I felt that now was a good time to post this with all of the swim sales happening right now! As always, thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts!
Gratefully with love,
xoxoxoxoxoxoxo Rhiana
