~ I’m SO excited to bring you this special Mother’s Day Empowering Women Q&A with THE best mom around: my sister-in-law, Amy Wells! She’s the definition of a “super mom” and somehow does it all with more patience and grace than I’ve ever seen. Amy has successfully juggled a career, school, and motherhood all while going above and beyond in each of those roles. She puts her girls first and (as you can tell from these photos), like the rest of her family and friends, they love and adore her more than words!
Amy amazes me in the way that she’s always there for everyone, even though I can’t even wrap my head around all that she balances in a single day! I’ll never forget the week that I was frantically packing up my townhouse for my big move to Milan…Amy was literally the only person to reach out and ask how I was doing (legit…the only one!)! She is always thinking of me in the midst of her busy schedule and I’ll always always always be so grateful to have her as a sister. I often tell people that as far as sister-in-laws go, I completely hit the jackpot! One day when I’m a mom, I have someone to ask the “big questions” to…and that’s SUCH a gift and blessing!
Even though Amy and I aren’t all that far apart in age, I look up to her so much. I hope that you enjoy this Q&A full of wisdom and insight. It’s my honor and pleasure to share this post with you today!
Since it’s Mother’s Day….what have been some of your most rewarding moments as a mom?
I would say one of the most rewarding moments is watching both of my girls learn, and grow into the beautiful little girls they are today with their own big personalities.
What’s been your favorite thing to pass along to Cora & Laney?
I would say my favorite things to pass along to Cora and Laney are my love (#1), life lessons, and manners.
What’s your favorite part of the day with the girls?
My favorite part of the day is when we have a moment in our crazy busy lives where things slow down and we get to take a minute and appreciate each other‘s company and talk about our day and sit with one another and snuggle on the couch.
What have you learned about yourself over the past 8 years of motherhood?
I have learned that family is everything, that you will never get this time back and I would much rather sit at home with my girls and snuggle and watch a movie then go out any day! The simple things in life are my favorite things in life.
What’s the biggest challenge you face in juggling your career and motherhood?
The biggest challenge I face is a good work/life balance. I want to have a successful career but my family will always come first. I try my hardest to be at every practice and every show I possibly can, while also trying to work my way up in my company. I think I have found a good balance that works for me in my life right now.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a mom?
The biggest lesson I have learned as a mom is to step back and let them try things on their own – the look they give you when they have figured something out on their own is priceless and so heartwarming.
Do you have a favorite Mother’s Day memory?
My girls (and husband) make every Mother’s Day special for me, I have many special memories…I am one lucky momma. I would have to say my favorite every year, though, is when they wake me up in the morning and walk me out to the kitchen table and tell me to close my eyes and they surprise me with flowers and homemade cards and presents that they are so proud of and they just can’t wait to see my face and reaction to all of their hard work. There are also very good at taking care of me, they always make me a nice comfy spot and tell me to kick my feet up and relax and they wait on me by bringing me drinks and snacks. 😊
What women have inspired you?
My mom and both of my sisters have inspired me throughout my life. My mom raised three successful daughters that ended up being best friends in life, I can only hope and pray that my girls are best friends when they’re all grown up. Both of my sisters have also inspired me in my life, I have always looked up to them as mothers as well as successful women in life. I have learned so many valuable things from my mom and sisters and I could never imagine my life without them, I am so grateful to have them in my life as my best friends.
What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?
Most people don’t know that I love thrilling, adrenaline pumping activities such as skydiving, bungee jumping, etc. Because I have young children I had to put the thrill seeking on hold for a while 😊
What are three things that you absolutely positively cannot live without?
I can not live without my family, laughter, and love.
What makes you smile the most?
My girls make me smile the most, especially when I see them treat others with kindness and love, when they have loving sisterly moments, when I’m watching them play so innocently with wild imaginations from a distance and they don’t even know, and when they give me big hugs and kisses and tell me how much they love me.
What’s one piece of advice you wish you knew 5 years ago?
I would say to take a family vacation for a week away from home just the four of us every year. (Doesn’t have to be anything crazy) This would get us away from our busy day to day life and gives us time to just be together and enjoy one another’s company and watch the kids smile and have fun and just be care free for a week together!
* Fun fact: more than half of you following along are mothers! It is my hope and goal to do a better job to serve you and bridge the gap between moms and non-moms. How can we do a better job of being there for each other and understanding our unique roles as friends? xoxoxoxo
