First, happy Mother’s Day to all of the amazing mothers out there! Because of this very special day, and because I have a pretty cool mom, I decided to ask her some of the same questions that I usually ask all of the empowering women I feature here on the blog. My mom has done so much! She moved to New York City in her early twenties without knowing a soul and then owned her own boutique for over 30 years. She also met my dad when they were volunteering as ski patrol on a mountain in PA and she’s a pretty amazing skier. I like to joke that my mom is the ultimate “spring breaker” in her retirement, but really, I think it’s just her contagious sense of fun that keeps throwing adventures her way. My mom is the ultimate supporter of my dreams, even when they are crazy and might not make sense to everyone else, she’ll say “Go for it! You can do it!” I’m grateful for her every day and so blessed to have her. Here are some photos that my dad took of us at Longwood Gardens in PA the other weekend. We don’t have enough recent photos together! Scroll down for a very special Q&A with my mommy.
If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Blue jeans, a comfortable top, and sandals
What women have inspired you?
My Aunt Norie was a big influence in my life. She taught me kindness, generosity, love, and strength.
I also believe attending an all girls private high school and being challenged by women teachers was inspiring.
What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?
I was a real tomboy growing up….playing football with the boys and building forts in the woods with my brother and catching salamanders and frogs in the swamp!
What are three things that you absolutely positively cannot live without?
My morning coffee, a good night’s sleep, friends and, of course, my family (oops that’s four)
Favorite indulgence?
Basking in the Jamaican sunshine!
What makes you smile the most?
That’s a tough one. I think I smile a lot…..I believe smiles are contagious! I like to smile at everyone I pass and watch them smile back! Smiles are meant to be shared!
What’s one piece of advice you wish you knew 40 years ago?
Everything happens for a reason! Follow your heart and always trust your intuition!
