~ Confession: I’m completely breaking all the rules this year and not putting away my white pants, white shorts, or Lilly prints after Labor Day (eeek I feel guilty even typing that)! You should know that I’m a pretty big stickler for this (also a member of the white pants police is my Little, who also calls people out for wearing white after Labor Day). Don’t tell my Grammy, though, who was the first one to teach me this rule that I’ve been enforcing upon my friends ever since. Well guys, this is the year it’s being broken. Why? 1: Because it was the shortest summer of my whole entire life and I’m just not ready to give them up yet. 2: My legs are still tan. 3: I’m obsessing over my new Lilly from their After Party Sale (and it would be such a shame to not wear them this season, right?!). 4: White shorts make me feel more confident and I have NO IDEA why.
I turned 27 over the holiday weekend and it was an awesome weekend spent on a lake in the Poconos (that’s PA mountains) with my two little nieces, Cora and Laney. I was so excited to have them for three days all to myself! Cora just started first grade and Laney will turn 3 in a couple of weeks. I’ve always known that they looked up to me, but I seemed to notice it so much this past weekend in the ways that Cora subtly (and very cutely) did a lot of the things I did. One of our family friends said, “They really look up to you, that’s a lot of responsibility,” which I’ve always known, but I really took the comment to heart. It IS a responsibility being an aunt. I was trying my best to be extra patient, give extra assurance, and be extra loving in hopes that they would somehow notice. One of my favorite parts of the weekend was on my birthday night when we all made paper crowns and wore dresses. Isn’t it amazing that we girls gain confidence from our outfits at the youngest of ages?! We all had a little recital and did a dance that I taught them and seeing them so joyful and confident was incredibly contagious! It was their confidence that rubbed off on me, not the other way around! Maybe reason number 5 why I refuse to put away my whites and Lillys yet is because of a little extra confidence, happiness, and inspiration from those two little angels.
