Hi loves! I realize this is something that I have not done on the blog yet. And I want Wear Bows & Smile to be centered around fashion, positive anecdotes, style tips, and amazing empowering women features that inspire us all! However, if this little site is truly a reflection of my creativity, it would simply be incomplete without a few DIY projects and fun crafts now and then. Anyone who knows me well will tell you that I hand make almost all of my cards! Truth be told, I’ve never given a store-bought Valentine’s card! I LOVE making my friends and family feel special by giving them something that I made by hand. It’s the best feeling, and I wanted to share that with YOU all too! If you would like me to send you a hand-made card, simply subscribe to the blog between now and February 14th (if you are already subscribed, comment below or e-mail me at wearbowsandsmile@gmail.com!). Here’s an easy step-by-step guide to how I made my “rose bouquet” Valentine’s Day cards this year! Love you all so much! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo Rhiana
What You’ll Need:
~ The basics…aka…. scissors, glue gun, glue stick ~
~ Colorful card stock (8×11) ~
~ Ribbon of your choice! (I prefer grosgrain always!) ~
~ Foam hearts with adhesive on back (any Michaels or AC Moore will have!) ~
Let’s get to it!
Step 1: Make the green stems of the rose bouquets! Cut 3 inch slits along the end of your green card stock. Try to get them as skinny as possible! I usually cut a bunch of vertical slits (to make it look like paper “fringe”) and then cut across horizontally to make a pile of little stems. I then made little green asterisks by sticking them all together! Get out your glue stick for this, and be prepared to get a little sticky. Add some glue to the middle of each green stem and place one on top of the other to get your little green asterisk.
Step 2: Make the mini bows (obviously my favorite part!)! I cut 8-9 inch pieces of grosgrain ribbon, but this is totally up to you! I like to have them a little longer and then cut the ends once the bow is finished. How do I tie these little guys to make them look so pretty? I think about tying a bow-tie in my head! However, if you do the old fashioned “shoelace” way, that is “ok” too! Just make your 2 loops and then knot together, pulling to tighten and adjust so each side is even.
Step 3: Get out your hot pink glue gun! Assuming that everyone prefers the hot pink glue guns, right?! Glue each bow to the middle of each little green asterisk, which will become your bouquet!
Step 4: Cut the paper! I like to fold the card stock in half and then cut it in half (carefully)! However, you can completely size these to your liking. Maybe you have a really long love note to write?! (I hope you do!)
Step 5: Use that hot pink glue gun to glue each little asterisk and bow duo to the middle of the front of the blank card.
Step 6: Get out your HEARTS! Peel off the back of the adhesive and stick on to each little stem.
VOILA! You can show your BIG heart by giving these little heart bouquet Valentine’s! I hope that your loved ones and friends love these and that you have fun making them! I also hope that, in the case you’re trying to WIN someone’s heart, these little hand-made heart bouquets help a little bit <3 xoxoxoxoxoxo
